Public health system remains an important source for healthcare seeking among marginalized tribal communities as well as the rural and urban poor. Sangwari has directly or indirectly worked on various essential building blocks of health system starting from local to state level. During COVID-19 its doctors ran a COVID-19 ICU in the district hospital, Ambikapur. Similarly, Sangwari is working closely with the public health system to improve care for chronic diseases such as sickle cell disease, diabetes, rheumatic and congenital heart disease and epilepsy. It provided technical support to develop a Model Sickle Cell Disease Unit at the urban primary health centre at Nawapara in Ambikapur and this work is now being extended to district hospitals in Surguja division.
Sangwari has trained medical officers, nurses and laboratory technicians at the district hospitals in the division in topics such as snake and other animal bites, sickle cell disease, pain and palliative care, maternal and child care and communication skills.
We have signed a memorandum of understanding with the State Health Resource Centre, Raipur and trained Community Health Officers, mitanin trainers and mitanins.
